Quilts for Care Leavers Quiltathon at Pinhole Quilting 2021

Quilts for Care Leavers Charity Quiltathon 20th to 21st October 2021

This week the Pinhole Quilting Showroom was transformed into a quilt mass production line for Quilts for Care Leavers. On the weeks before we had been receiving quilts from around the country from quilters who had been making quilts on monthly "block drives". You can read more about Quilts for Care Leavers on the their Facebook page.

Here are images from the event..When they are finished they are called "hugs" because so often many of the children leaving care may not have had the number of hugs that you, I or your children or grandchildren take for granted.

We hope that our quilts go some way to helping with a hug every time they wrap their own quilt around them. They get to pick their own quilt from the quilts available. This is also so important. It is their choice. In their lives many of the choices may have been made for them.

Preparation

Day 1

Day 2

The amazing thing was the amount of quilts quilted - we soundly beat our target of 60.

69 hugs quilted in 2 days!

Everyone should be so proud to have played their part in this huge achievement from making binding to trimming and sewing it on to quilting. People got to try out longarms that had never used one before. Quilters learnt new techniques from each other.

We had quilters come from Sussex, Bath, the Fens, Manchester, Bedfordshire, Surrey and beyond! They were hosted so generously by Sharon and Pauline.
